Mitcham were victorious in their most recent clash against Wandsworthians. The game was a hugely physical contest, with the away side's pack making their presence felt in the opening minutes, crashing over the line twice in the first twenty minutes. Once M&C began to regain their composure, they began to make their make their prescence felt on the pitch too. The first try for M&C coming from Centre Corey Griffiths, who broke the line thanks to a expertly delayed offload from Scrum Half Jaysen Fox in Wandsworthians 22'. This pop allowed Griffiths to sidestep one defender, leaving him for dead and rounding the posts for a strong try. M&C soon came bouncing back into Wandworthians territory and 10m from their try line, M&C were awarded a penalty. A quickly taken tap and go saw the ball passed to prop Chris Gilbert, who smashed through for M&C's second try of the day.
Despite the first half being a tough physical affair with both sides enjoying possession, the second half became of the most surreal moments in recent club memory. A few decisions went against Wandsworthians and dissent amongst the team towards the referee caused the near capitulation of the side. Following a well taken try from winger Iain Honeyman-Baker, continuous dissent allowed Mitcham to retain the ball following the try, with a 20m advantage from kick off. Mitcham scored again, but yet again from the restart, Mitcham retained the ball with a 10m advantage. The points began racking up and through the second half, tries were scored by Prop Steve Burgess and centres Dan James and Kaine Ellis. The last 5-10 minutes however did see Wandsworthians return to their style of strong crash ball running. Despite a valiant defence, the pick and go crash balls did their work and Wandsworthians were deservedly able to crash over the line for the last play of the game.
