Sadly on Saturday, M&C were beaten by a very strong Streatham & Croydon side, who were set on a win to ensure their promotion into Surrey 3. It took a long time for S&C to get the ball rolling however, with Mitcham frustrating them for the first half hour, with both sides playing strong expansive rugby and massive hits in the midfield.
The deadlock was broke around 30 mins into the first half where S&C found space in the corner. This was then repeated in similar fashion a few minutes later. Mitcham did get the ball over the line to claw one back but however was dubiously called 'held up', much the frustration and bemusement of the home side.
The second half however in all honesty reflected why S&C have only lost one game this season. Through the second half they remained a well drilled side and their fitness proved too much for M&C’s defence to handle.
Despite the scoreline, Mitcham were very close to scoring on several occasions and kept S&C’s big forwards at bay for large parts of the game.
Regardless, we dust ourselves off an go again next week as we take on Old Hamptonians to see if we can keep hold of 4th spot. Congrats to S&C on their promotion, hopefully will see you in a few years!
As ever, we rise.
