Heartbreak at the death as M&C were beaten by a very strong Croydon side in the final play of the game, courtesy of poor discipline and a penalty try.
As the scoreline implies, end to end action all game, with both sides scoring three tries in the first half, putting Croydon 19-17 up after 40 mins.
Croydon then began to pull away over the second half, and with 15 minutes to play, they were three scores ahead. In a phenomenal effort, M&C clawed it back, scoring three tries in the space of ten minutes and taking the lead 33-38.
The hard work was undone however in the last play of the game with poor discipline resulting in a penalty try and ending the game 40-38.
A gutting result but incredible spirit from M&C and a great performance but it wasn't to be. A year ago, Croydon would have won by a cricket score and that's testament to the effort that the lads are putting in at training. The backs looked terrifying and it should be said that's the first time our 10, 12 and 13 have played together in a match! We go again next week against Wandsworthians!
