Statement from our new Club Chairman, Ian "Magoo" McAra;
"I was approached a couple of months ago to consider becoming the Mitcham & Carshalton Chairman… it was a no brainer! I love our club, it has been a massive part of my life… from first playing for the Mitcham Sunday team (as I used to play on the Saturday for Shirley Wanderers) and then totally immersing myself in the club a year or so later.
From captaining the then 5th team, then 4’s, 3’s etc over the forthcoming years, the club got well and truly under my skin, where it has been ever since. It was the mix of the membership that made Mitcham so special… literally Cops, Robbers and everything in between, professional outstanding business people to people looking for work, you could not imagine it would work, but come on, this was Mitcham, no bravado, just a passion to play Rugby and have a good time…
This went on for several years.
Then just three years ago, we were just about hanging in there… when all of a sudden, a few new boys joining the club, some of the young lads wanting to get involved more, a new vibe and energy was being created. The desire to get things moving forward and engaging in social media, has now got the club out of the dull-drums and really putting our club back on the Surrey Rugby map.
We now have an amazing set-up with the probability of getting THREE Men’s teams out next season… AND a Women’s team!!! along with a newly re-generated Old Boys membership… it really goes to show, how far we have come over the last couple years. Who in their right mind would not want to be part of this?
I would like to thank everyone involved in our amazing club, how well they have all done during very difficult years… I am truly grateful to the few who have moved the club forward for all now to enjoy.
I hope that all the newcomers and of course the old, can all share and experience so much from a Rugby family.
Having the team around me with the same focus, determination and passion, I know we can achieve some seriously great things…
